Broken Dreams

by Chris Simpson

Through the pitchest dark of night,
I saw a ray, spot of light.
Shining through to break the still,
Give me strength, fuel my will.

As I stood upon my feet.
I felt the fire of life burning,
Flaming, pushing me..

When I walked, I saw my life.
Passing by before my eyes.
I made my way to the light
And discovered of all things
I had ever done,
This was my greatest fight,
This is the one.
I walked, I ran and heard,
Felt my heartbeat in my head.
Of all my strength, all life,
I just could not reach the light.

Then I looked, saw my fate,
Feel to my knees, crawled my way.
I could not, would not quit,
Mustered all to make this trip.
Finally, finally I reached my goal.
Yet, my light was ice stone cold.
